2020 Summit
The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island hosted its 2020 virtual Cancer Summit featuring presentations on secondary cancers, oral health, psychosocial oncology, and the relationships between survivors, caregivers, and providers. Keynote speaker Dr. Robert Legare discussed major cancer breakthroughs over the past 20 years and their impact on survivorship. He also highlighted future directions in cancer research and treatment expected to shape survivorship in the coming decade.

2021 Summit
The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island held its first-ever hybrid Annual Cancer Summit on November 4, 2021. The summit, “A Decade of Promise for Pediatric Cancer and Palliative Care: Survivorship in 2021,” featured a keynote by Jessica Marfeo, BSN, RN, OCN, R-ICU Nurse at Rhode Island Hospital, Former Miss Rhode Island 2013, and pediatric cancer survivor. Junhie Oh, BDS, MPH, and Nancy Lebrun, BS, CTR gave a joint presentation on PYAC cancer reporting and the long-term hardship of survivors, and Susan DeSanto-Madeya, Ph.D., RN, FAAN led a multidisciplinary panel of experts on the importance of palliative care for optimizing the quality of life for patients across the lifespan.

2022 Summit
The Partnership hosted the 2022 Annual Cancer Summit with featured presentations from Katrina Goddard of the National Cancer Institute and keynote speaker Dr. Nadine McCleary of Dana-Farber. Kate McCarthy from FEMA led a multidisciplinary panel on health inequities in underserved Rhode Island communities. Gary Savona and Dr. Anne Chiang discussed the importance of clinical trials and expanding access for all patients.

2023 Summit
The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island hosted its 2023 Cancer Summit featuring Dr. Janet de Moor from the National Cancer Institute, who shared national efforts to address cancer-related financial toxicity. Keynote speaker Dr. S. Vincent Rajkumar of the Mayo Clinic discussed research on financial toxicity in clinical trials. The Summit also included panels highlighting a patient’s experience with financial burdens after diagnosis and a statewide call to action to address this issue.

2024 Summit
The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island hosted its 2024 Cancer Summit featuring updates on cancer care and statewide statistics from Dr. Olutosin Ojugbele and Dr. Victoria Fruh, with welcoming remarks from Nikki Hayes of the CDC. Keynote speaker Dr. Sheldon Holder discussed how cancer research, prevention, and personalized care can shape the future of cancer treatment. The Summit also included panel discussions on best practices in cancer care and the role of genetics in prevention and treatment.

2025 Summit
The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island hosted its 2025 Cancer Summit focused on the theme “Reducing Risk and Improving Cancer Outcomes through Integrative Care.” Speakers included Dr. Jerome Larkin, Dr. Victoria Fruh, keynote presenter Daniel Glidden, and panelists from the nutrition and exercise sessions: Tyler Carden, Donna Castricone, Dr. Kristina Ward, Dr. Alexandra Gunderson, Jackie Robinson, and Judy Ammidown. The Summit highlighted integrative strategies that support cancer prevention, treatment, recovery, and survivorship.
